Monterrey wound up as the top seed of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals after the group stage of the competition ended on Thursday night.
The two-time defending CCL champions from Mexico will take eighth-seeded Xelaju (Guatemala). The first leg of the quarterfinals is scheduled for March 2-4, the second leg on March 9-11.
The higher seed will host the second leg.
Second-seeded Santos Laguna (mexico), which lost to Monterrey in the CCL finals earlier this year, will meet the No. 7 Houston Dynamo (United States).
The third-seeded Seattle Sounders (U.S.) will tussle with sixth-seeded Tigres UANL (Mexico) and No. 4 LA Galaxy will face Herediano (Costa Rica).
Xelaju and Herediano were the only teams not from Mexico or the U.S. in the final eight.
The semifinal pairings meant that the Monterrey-Xelaju winner will take on the Galaxy-Herediano victor. The Seattle-Tigres winner will face the Santos-Houston survivor.
The semifinals are scheduled for April 2-4 and April 9-11.
