LES ABYMES, Guadeloupe – It’s all up for grabs in Group 7 of the CFU Caribbean Cup as three teams still are in contention to reach the competition’s final round.
Guadeloupe helped itself immensely with a 4-1 triumph over Puerto Rico on Thursday night.
The victory left Guadeloupe (1-1-0, three points) a point behind from group leaders Dominican Republic and Martinique, which played to a 1-1 draw in the first game of the doubleheader. Both teams have four points on the strength of 1-0-1 records.
Friday’s group finale doubleheader will have the Dominican Republic meeting Puerto Rico, and Guadeloupe facing Martinique. Two teams will qualify to the Cup ffinals in Antigua & Barbuda in December.
Guadeloupe 4, Puerto Rico 1
Dominique Mocka recorded a brace in the opening 26 minutes to lead the Gwada Boys.
Loic Loval-Landre boosted Guadeloupe the lead in the eighth minute before Mocka struck in the 11th and 26th minutes to end a six-match losing streak as Puerto Rico (0-2-0, none) was eliminated. The Puerto Ricans have lost three games in a row.
Vladimir Pascal added a fourth goal in the 69th minute.
Hector Ramos scored his second goal in as many matches — and for the fourth time in five games — for Puerto Rico in the 83rd minute.
Dominican Republic 1, Martinique 1
Domingo Peralta lifted the Dominicans into the lead in the 45th minute and Gael Germany equalized for Martinque in the 71st minute.
The Dominican Republic extended its unbeaten streak to eight games. Martinique has a six-game unbeaten streak.
