Dane Richards, who scored two late goals to propel Jamaica into the CONCACAF final round of World Cup qualifying last week, was chosen as the TropiGol.com men’s player of the week.
With the Reggae Boyz leading visiting Antigua & Barbuda, 2-1, entering the final 15 minutes, the Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder struck twice — in the 77th and 88th minute.
The three-goal margin of victory boosted the Jamaicans over Guatemala by superior goal differential (plus three to plus one) in Group A.
Richards called the goals the most important of his career.
“We wanted to go to the next round and it was our fault why we weren’t secured,” Richards was quoted by the Jamaica Observer. “When we went to Antigua we should have won and got three points and then we gave up a goal late in Guatemala. So we wanted to come here and get back the fans in the stadium.”
