CARSON, Calif. — Jamaican international Omar Cummings, who is better known for scoring goals, set up the Colorado Rapids’ insurance score in their 2-0 win over Chivas USA in Major League Soccer action on Saturday night.
After the visitors grabbed a 1-0 advantage on Martin Rivero’s goal in the 17th minute, Cummings helped to double the score in the 43rd minute at The Home Depot Center.
The Jamaican drew the defense to the right side of the penalty before feeding Kamani Hill, who headed the ball off the left post and past goalkeeper Tim Melia.
“I think we stole the ball from the back. Our organization and our pressure paid off for us,” Hill said. “Omar came up the right side and delivered a great ball to the back post and I put it back where it came from, it caught the keeper adjusting and scored a great goal.”
The Rapids (34 points) improved to 10-19-4, while Chivas (29) dropped to 7-18-8. Both teams are out of the MLS playoff race.
