SAN JOSE, Costa Rica — Randall Brenes and Alvaro Saborio each scored two goals for Costa Rica, which recorded a 7-0 win over Guyana to clinch a berth in next year’s World Cup qualifying final round.
The Ticos (3-2-1, 10 points) finished in second place in CONCACAF Group B as they booked a spot for next year’s hexagonal as Mexico (6-0-0, 18 points) enjoyed a perfect record. Guyana fell to 0-5-1.
Randall Brenes gave the Central Americans all the scoring they needed in the 10th minute before Cristian Gamboa doubled the lead four minutes later.
Three minutes into the second half, Brenes tallied his second goal before Saborio got into the act.
First, the Real Salt Lake City striker converted a penalty kick in the 51st minute.
After Cristian Bolanos (60th minute) and Celso Borges (71st minute) found pay dirt, Saborio closed out the scoring in the 76th minute.
