The Canadian Soccer Association named Kevin McKenna and Tiffany Cameron as its players of the month for September.
McKenna was Canada’s player of the match in the Sept. 7 World Cup qualifier at BMO Field in Toronto. The Canadian captain led Canada to a 1-0 CONCACAF Group C victory over Panama.
After a 2-0 qualifying loss in Panama, McKenna returned his club FC Köln in the German 2.Bundesliga, helping the team turn around its early season misfortune with a 2-1-1 record. McKenna played in three matches, including a scoreless home draw with FC St. Pauli and a 2-1 home win over FSV Frankfurt.
Cameron, a 20-year-old striker from Mississauga, scored seven goals in eight matches for the University of Ohio. She tallied her seven goals in five wins, including braces against Duquesne and Northwestern. The Buckeyes registered a 5-2-1 mark in September, boosting its record to 7-1-4.
Each month, the CSL will honor one male and one female Canadian player in recognition of their outstanding performances with country and/or club. The winners will be announced via the association’s website, CanadaSoccer.com.
