Canada unveils 21-man roster for finale 2 WCQ semifinal games

Canada on Thursday announced its roster for the World Cup Qualifiers matches against Cuba on Oct. 12 and in Honduras on Oct. 16.

Coach Stephen Hart selected 21 players for the Group C matches.

The Canadians are tied for second place in CONCACAF Group C with 2-1-1 records and seven points apiece behind leader Panama (3-1-0, nine), which just needs a win to clinch a spot in next year’s hexagonal. The top two teams from the group will advance.

From the goal out, Canada’s squad features goalkeepers Milan Borjan, Lars Hirschfeld and Kenny Stamatopoulos, defenders Marcel de Jong, David Edgar, André Hainault, Dejan Jaković, Ante Jazić, Mike Klukowski and Kevin McKenna, and midfielders/forwards Patrice Bernier, Terry Dunfield, Julian de Guzman, Iain Hume, Atiba Hutchinson, Simeon Jackson, Will Johnson, Nik Ledgerwood, Olivier Occean, Pedro Pacheco and Tosaint Ricketts.

The Canada-Cuba match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET at BMO Field on Oct. 12. The match will be broadcast live on Sportsnet One, with a pre-match show starting at 7 p.m.The group finale will be played at Estadio Olímpico in San Pedro Sula, Honduras on Oct. 16.

Hart’s team includes players who perform for clubs 10 countries, including Dunfield (Toronto FC) and Bernier (Impact Montréal) who play professional football in Canada. All 21 players have participated in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers this year.
