Costa Rican international striker Alvaro Saborio, who recorded a hat-trick in Real Salt Lake’s 4-0 win over Chivas USA on Saturday night, has been selected as the TropiGol.com player of the week.

Saborio was honored for the week ending on Sunday, Sept. 30.

The victory lifted RSL (16-11-4, 52 points) into second place in the Western Conference in Major league Soccer as last-place Chivas (28 points) fell to 7-16-7.

Saborio said he was “very happy with the victory and performance of the team and the win on the road. We worked hard to create chances and score, the midfielders did their job to get chances.”

He added that the team’s mentality was “very positive, we have to think that every game is a playoff game and keep it like that.”

Saborio scored in the eighth, 12th and 65th minutes.
