NEW YORK — CONCACAF announced on Tuesday the appointment of Horace Donovan Reid as director of competitions, effective Nov. 1.
Reid brings extensive experience as general secretary of the Jamaica Football Federation for the past five years and as executive director of the marketing division at the Caribbean Football Union.
“The integrity as well as the quality of play are a priority to CONCACAF and part of our goal is to see these traits reach the highest attainable level,” CONCACAF general secretary Enrique Sanz said.
As part of Reid’s most recent engagements in the past years, he has been appointed as a member of CFU Legal Task Force, FIFA Security & Stadium Inspector (World Cup 2010) and Member of FIFA’s Beach Soccer Standing Committee. He also served as chairman of CONCACAF Administration Committee for 10 years through in 2011.
“In a desire to be an integral part of a progressive, dynamic and forward thinking confederation, I trust my skills and expertise in competitions management, as well as my vast experience in football administration, will contribute to the development of the sport in the CONCACAF region,” Reid said. “It’s a privilege that certainly comes with a great deal of responsibility.”
Reid will leave his role as with the JFF.
“It was a most difficult decision to leave the JFF and Jamaica, but thanks to the tremendous understanding and support received from the president and other members of the board, I was able to take advantage of the opportunity,” he told the Jamaica Observer on Wednesday.
Reid added that he felt a successor will be found.
“I’m very confident in the administrative and technical infrastructure currently in place to continue the development of the sport and . . . prosecute successfully the remainder of the FIFA 2014 Brazil WC campaign,” Reid told the Observer. “I have little doubt.”
