Martinez gives Philly some insurance, Garcia scores for Houston

Posted on September 24, 2012

CHESTER, Pa. — Costa Rican Josue Martinez and Honduran Oscar Boniek Garcia scored for their respective teams in the Philadelphia Union’s 3-1 Major League Soccer win over the Houston Dynamo at PPL Park on Sunday.

After the first of two Freddy Adu goals lifted the Union into the lead in the 28th minute, Garcia tallied his second goal for the visitors in the 44th minute. Kofi Sardokie played the ball into the penalty area from the left side to Will Bruin, who laid it off to Garcia. The Honduran fired a shot that bounced off the left post and into the net for a 1-1 tie.

Adu converted a penalty kick in the 50th minute before Martinez volleyed in an Amobi Okugo feed in the 70th minute.

Philly (8-14-6, 30 points), whose playoff hopes are on a thread, ended an eight-game winless streak, while the Dynamo (46) dropped to 12-8-10.
