Central midfielder Rafa Marquez is available to the Red Bulls for their Saturday encounter against the New England Revolution, says coach Hans Backe.
If he starts, the Mexican international would play his third game in eight days since returning from a calf injury that kept him sidelined for more than a month.
Asked if Marquez was available during a Friday afternoon conference call, Backe replied, “Yes, absolutely. He also played whe we played in Portland.”
Backe was referring to the artificial turf in Portland. Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. also has turf.
“He does not have a big problem with it,” he added. “Perhaps it is not a good idea to try to do 90, but he could definitely, if everything works well, be up to 70 minutes or something like that.”
