Jozy Altidore may have trouble scoring for the U.S. National Team these days, but he has quite comfortable at home, thank you.
Home is AZ Alkmaar, for whom the former New York Red Bulls striker struck for a hat-trick in a 4-0 triumph over Roda JC in the Dutch First Division on Sunday.
Altidore gave AZ all the scoring it needed in the 13th minute. Erik Falkenburg double the lead in the 29th minute before a home crowd of 15,691.
Altidore, who did not score for the U.S. in its most recent World Cup qualifying series with Jamaica, made it a brace in the 40th minute before he again found the back of the net in the 65th minute.
He has seven goals for AZ this season.
“It was a special day for me, but must importantly the team played very well,” Altidore told the Associated Press.
Added AZ coach Gertjan Verbeek: “It has been a struggle to get him going, but I’m not surprised that he’s doing so well now.”
