FORT-DE-FRANCE, Martinique — The fate of the Group 3 teams already had been decided for the second round of the Caribbean Cup, but there was plenty of news on Sunday night.
Montserrat ended a 17-year winless and 23-game streak and Suriname secured first place in the group.
Montserrat 7, British Virgin Islands 0
Montserrat earned third place in the group while the BVI finished fourth.
Marlon Campbell had a first-half brace in the 35th minute and a minute into added time. Teammate Ellis Remy struck in the 71st and 81st minutes.
Darryl Roach tallied three minutes into first-half stoppage time and Bradley Woods-Garnes found the back of the net in the 53rd minute. Jamaal Sargeant of the British Virgin Islands scored an own goal in the 88th minute.
Martinique 2, Suriname 2
Martinique allowed a 2-0 advantage slip away, but a tie for Suriname was good enough to finish it first in the group. Both teams, who had clinched second-round berths, finished with seven points, but the hosts won the group behind better difference (21 to 10).
Kevin Parsemain’s 11th goal of the tournament gave Martinique the lead in the ninth minute lead. Djenhaël Mainge made it 2-0 in the 28th minute.
Suriname sliced the deficit to 2-1 with a goal from goalkeeper Ronny Clyde Aloema in the 25th minute.
Donovan Loswijk equalized by converting a penalty kick two minutes into second-half stoppage time.
