HULL, England — It was not a memorable afternoon for former Red Bulls central defender Tim Ream and his Bolton Wanderers teammates, who dropped a 3-1 decision to Hull City at KC Stadium in the English Championship on Saturday.
According to a game report on the Manchester Evening News website, Ream “endured a nightmare afternoon.”
Ream could not stop Hull from scoring its final goal. Jay Simpson collected a pass just inside the penalty area. He shrugged off Ream’s challenge before squaring from the right for Stephen Quinn, who scored from close-range in his Hull City debut.
Ream, who has been recalled to the U.S. National Team for its World Cup qualifying series against Jamaica this month, went the entire way for Bolton (the entire team will be released on Sunday).
Needless to say, Bolton manager Owen Coyle was not happy with his team’s defense in general. He did not single anyone out in particular.
“We have to accept and take responsibility,” he was quoted on the team’s website. “We have to start keeping clean sheets and stop leaking soft goals.”
Coyle was far from finished.
“The disappointing thing from my point of view is the way we started the second half,” told the Bolton website. “Even after we went 2-1 down, we’ve still got 44 minutes to get ourselves back in the game. We’ve then allowed another soft goal, as good a finish as it was, and that gave us a mountain to climb that ultimately proved too much.”
