Rutgers University women’s redshirt junior Jonelle Filigno was named the Tropigol.com women’s player of the week on Tuesday.
Filigno was honored for the week ending on Sunday, Aug. 26.
She also was named the Big East offensive player of the week for the second time in a row.
Filigno became the first RU field player to win conference weekly honors in consecutive weeks.
Continuing her torrid scoring pace, Filigno scored two goals, including the game-winner, in a 2-0 week.
A member of the Canadian bronze-medal winners at the recent Summer Olympics, Filigno tallied both goals in a 2-1 win over Bucknell on Friday before helping the team to a 1-0 win over Siena on Sunday.
Melissa Henderson (Notre Dame) was the last player to win consecutive Big East offensive player of the week accolades on Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, 2010.
The Scarlet Knights are 4-0-0 for the first time since 2007. With her game-winning goal against the Bison, Filigno moved into a tie for sixth all-time in the RU career record book with eight game-winners.
Filigno and her teammates head to College Station, Texas for games against No. 12 Texas A&M and Sam Houston State later this week.
