Canada loses to N. Korea, exits U-20 WWC

Posted on August 27, 2012

SAITAMA, Japan — Canada was eliminated from the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup, dropping a 2-1 Group C decision to North Korea on Monday.

The Canadians (1-2-0, three points) had grabbed a 1-0 lead on Christine Exeter’s goal in the 12th minute at Komaba Stadium.

But the Koreans (3-0-0, nine) would not give up as Kim Un Hwa equalized in the 33rd minute, her seventh goal in three matches, and Yun Hyon Hi converted a penalty kick in the 78th minute after he was fouled in the penalty area.

North Korea will meet the United States in the quarterfinals on Friday.
