CONCACAF announced on Thursday that Fútbol de Primera will be the exclusive Spanish-language radio broadcaster in the United States of the 2013 and 2015 editions of CONCACAF Gold Cup and that long-time anouncer Andrés Cantor will lead the play-by-play coverage.

FDP, which has carried the Gold Cup since 2007, will transmit the competition on its more than 100-affiliated stations (40 of which are on the FM dial) across the country.

The Spanish-language audience in the U.S. makes up the largest percentage of fans tuning in for broadcasts of Gold Cup matches on radio and television, and represents a rapidly growing demographic for each major CONCACAF competition. With today’s announcement, CONCACAF and FDP anticipate capturing a significant percentage of this audience and continuing to lay the groundwork for growing this fan base even further in 2015.

“We are excited to extend our Gold Cup relationship with Fútbol de Primera,” CONCACAF president Jeffrey Webb said in a statement. “With this partnership, it is our objective to promote the sport and cultivate the development of talent that inspires true passion for football by fostering excellence in the game.

“After the unprecedented success for our region at the Olympic Games, with gold medals for U.S. women and Mexico men, as well as bronze for the Canadian women, it is CONCACAF’s goal to create opportunities that showcase excellence in competition and display the unquestionable aptitude that is emerging from the region.”

Webb was excited about Cantor doing the play-by-play.

“Andrés Cantor and football go hand in hand,” he said. “His voice is synonymous with our sport and this collaboration is a clear statement of our commitment to a world-class standard and experience for our fans. We are committed to continuing to build momentum for CONCACAF’s members and teams through great relationships like FDP.”

Fútbol de Primera is home to many of the most valuable soccer properties on radio in the United States and the world, including the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, all Mexican national team games, plus World Cup Qualifying. FDP’s syndicated daily show, hosted by Cantor, is the country’s longest-running Spanish-language radio show of its kind.

In addition to broadcasting each Gold Cup game on radio and its website (fdpradio.com), FDP will support the tournament with pre- and post-game shows and provide comprehensive coverage on its daily program.

“I am honored at the trust bestowed on FDP Radio by CONCACAF and look forward to another three years together,” said Cantor, who is also FDP’s chairman. “We keep delivering the most important rights to our audience and by securing the CONCACAF Gold Cup through 2015, we can safely say FDP is the premier soccer network in the Hispanic community.”
