LONDON — After his team rolled to a 5-0 home victory over Norwich City in its English Premier League opener on Saturday, Fulham manager Martin Jol held out an olive branch to Clint Dempsey if the U.S. international striker doesn’t move to another club.
“If you want to move you don’t want to take risks, you don’t want to play because you could get an injury. That’s a very awkward situation for us and for me and for him as well,” Jol said at the post-match press conference at Craven Cottage.
“Maybe Clint knows more than us but we feel and the players feel and everyone else feels that he should stay here if there
is no other bid because there is no other bid. In a normal world you have to stay where you are because you signed your contract and hopefully he will play for us again.”
Dempsey, who scored 23 goals for Fulham in all competitions last year, says he does not want to play Fulham and has his desires on another team that would play in the UEFA Champions League.
