MEXICO — It wasn’t easy being green at Azteca Stadium on Wednesday night.
Not only did the green-glad Mexican team fall to the United States for the first time ever in Mexico, 1-0, but American goalkeeper Tim Howard had a green laser light shined on him for most of the international friendly.
“I think it’s the less you pay attention the better,” Howard said. “If you start calling attention to it, it seems like more lasers come out. Trying to get them to stop it would be futile. It’s part of the game now, you hope that the stadium and FIFA to do something about it, but we don’t expect it and just get on with it.”
Howard produced three saves, including two memorable stops in the final five minutes, to preserve the historic victory.
