LAUDERHILL, Fla. — Tosaint Ricketts and Will Johnson scored in the second half goals to lead Canada to a 2-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago, 2-0, in an intrenational friendly on Wednesday night.
Ricketts struck in the 58th minute. Mark De Jong sent a crossing pass from the left flank to Ricketts, who converted a 15-yard shot for a 1-0 lead in a cricket stadium in Central Broward Regional Park.
T&T’s Richard Roy almost equalized a minute later as goalkeeper Lars Hirshfeld deflected his shot inside the six-yard box.
Johnson gave the Canadians some breathing room, converting a penalty kick in the 86th minute after Soca Warriors defender Kareem Moses was called for a handball inside the penalty area.
Canada used the game as a World Cup qualifying tuneup as it will host Panama in Toronto on Sept. 7 before visiting the Central American side four days later.
T&T was ousted in the first round of CONCACAF qualifying.
