Striker Oribe Peralta, who scored both goals for Mexico in its 2-1 gold-medal game victory over Brazil at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, was named the Tropigol.com’s men’s player of the week.
Peralta was honored for the week ending on Sunday, Aug. 12.
The Mexican connected twice in the historic triumph, the first an 18-yard strike with the match only 29 seconds old, the second on a 10-yard header in the 75th minute that secured El Tri with a 2-0 advantage. Mexico needed that goal because Hulk scored for the Brazilians a minute into second-haf stoppage.
“I don’t know if this was the best match of my career, but what I do know is that this is the most important because I am here today with a gold medal,” Peralta said. “I dreamed about this moment. It is one of those things you don’t get to live every day.”
Peralta scored four goals in the Olympic tournament.
