Mexico and Honduras continue Olympic preparations

With its final 18-player roster announced at the end of last week, the Honduran Olympic team flew over the weekend to Villach, Austria, where it will hold a training camp until July 18.

The Central Americans will face fellow Olympic team Gabon in its first pre-tournament friendly on Wednesday. The team coached by Luis Fernando Suarez will also face the Under-23 teams of Egypt and UAE.

The team will be joined in Austria by its three overage players: Maynor Figueroa (Wigan Athletic), Roger Espinoza (Sporting Kansas City) and Jerry Bengtson (New England Revolution).

Mexico tied host and First Division side Leon, 1-1, last Wednesday. Javier Aquino scored a late equalizer for El Tri. Mexico’s three over-age selections, Jesus Corona (Cruz Azul), Carlos Salcido (Tigres UANL) and Oribe Peralta (Santos Laguna) played in the game.

On Monday, the Mexicans flew to Spain, where it will hold a training camp in Marbella. On Sunday, Mexico will face the Great Britain Olympic team. The next day it will travel to Cadiz, Spain, where it will face the Spain U-23s on July 18.
