With the UNCAF Under-20 qualifiers scheduled for later this month, the region’s teams are preparing for the competition.
El Salvador is in Mexico, where it tied Queretaro’s youth team 1-1 on Sunday, following a 1-0 loss to Toluca’s U-20 team on Thursday. The team moves to Mexico City and will face the following youth teams: Cruz Azul (Wednesday), América (Saturday) and Pachuca (Tuesday, July 17).
Guatemala is at home training and opened a series of three friendly matches with a 3-1 loss to Deportivo Malacateco on Sunday. The team will also play Deportivo Ayutla (Thursday) and Coatepeque (Sunday).
In Panama, the U-20 side defeated Arabe Unido 4-2 in Panama City and Tuesday will travel to Colombia for a six-day training camp. The Canaleros will face the Colombia U-20 side twice, on Tuesday and the following Saturday. On Thursday, the team, which is coached by Javier Wanchope, will meet Atletico Nacional.
Host Honduras, Costa Rica and Nicaragua will face off in Group A in Tegucigalpa from July 17-21. Group B will be played from July 25-29 in Coatepeque, Guatemala, featuring the host, El Salvador and Panama.
