Steve Ross’ Soccer Bowl ring up for auction

Posted on May 21, 2012

The 1977 North American Soccer League championship ring worn by the late New York Cosmos owner Steve Ross is up for auction at Lelands.

The Cosmos captured the 1977 Soccer Bowl in Portland, Ore., a 2-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders, on Aug. 28, 1977. It was Pele’s last competitive match.

There is one bid, which started at $1,000.

The auction goes off at June 15 at 9 p.m. ET.

According to the Lelands website:

“The 10-karat yellow gold Jostens ring – size 10 1/2 – features a genuine emerald in the center. Around the outer edge reads: NASL CHAMPIONS and 1977. The ring was awarded to a Steven J. Ross . . . all of which is engraved on the inside of the ring. A Pele signature is superimposed on the side shank, commemorating his final American season, along with the letters NASL. The Cosmos logo is on the other shank.”
