U.S. international Jozy Altidore scored AZ Alkmaar’s first goal in its 2-2 draw with Vitesse Arnhem in the Dutch First Division on Saturday.
The result, combined with Ajax’s 6-0 win over Heracles Almelo, pushed AZ into second place and the Amsterdam side into the first.
Ajax has 58 points after 28 games, one more than Alkmaar.
Altidore, who played with the New York Red Bulls headed home a shot to give the visitors the lead in the 32nd minute before Guram Kashia equalized three minutes later.
Marco van Ginkel gave Vitesse the lead before Simon Poulsen scored in the 59th minute for Alkmaar.
