97th edition of Cuban league starts

One of the oldest leagues in CONCACAF, Cuba’s Campeonato Nacional began on Saturday with its 97th edition.

Defending champion Villa Clara recorded a 2-1 victory over Granma behind a game-winning goal by international defender Yenier Marquez.

In other results:

La Habana defeated Las Tunas, 2-1; Ciego de Ávila shut out Camagüey, 3-0, and last season’s runner-up Guantánamo played Cienfuego to a 1-1 draw.
