U.S. international defender Ali Krieger says she has undergone “successful” surgery to repair her injured right knee.
Krieger suffered a torn ACL and MCL during the 14-0 triumph over the Dominican Republic at the CONCACAF women’s Olympic soccer qualifying tournament in Vancouver two weeks ago. She is expected to be sidelined from six to eight months.
“Hey everyone! Yes, the recovery process is going really well! Surgery was successful and today I’m back in PT
#roadtorecoveryupdates,” Krieger said in a tweet on Monday morning.
The 27-year-old Krieger incurred the injury in the 42nd minute against the Dominican Republic.
Before surgery, Krieger said she wanted to play in the Olympics, which would be cutting things close, considering the usual time to recover from such injuries.
“I want to get this done as soon as possible,” she said on Jan. 23. “Dr. [Christopher] Annunziata is a really well known doctor in the D.C. metropolitan area. He operated on my foot previously, so I have a lot of trust in him. I’m going to do it as soon as possible this week because I want to start that process and try and get back and still hope for the Olympics.”
