U.S. international midfielder-forward Clint Dempsey has been listed as a 50-1 shot to win the Professional Footballers Asociation Player of the Year in England by British bookmakers William Hill on Monday.
Dempsey has enjoyed a career year with Fulham in the English Premier League as he has connected for 16 goals in all competitions. He also has registered two hat-tricks, becoming the first American to accomplish the feat in the EPL.
The former New England Revolution standout was tied at No. 16 with three other players — Aaron Ramsey, Luis Suarez and Nani.
Manchester City’s David Silva was named the 2-1 favorite to earn the honor, followed by Arsenal striker Robin van Persie.
“When City are playing well it is usually because Silva is creating chaos in opposition defenses,” Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe said in an email. “He has been consistently one of the best players on view in the Premier League so far this season and must be a leading contender for the honor.”
