VANCOUVER — Wendy Pineda converted a hat-trick in less than a half hour and Guatemala scored three times in the opening nine minutes to register a 6-0 Group B victory over the Dominican Republic in the final CONCACAF Olympic women’s qualifying tournament game for both teams at BC Place on Tuesday.
The Central Americans (1-2) recorded their only win of the competition, finally finding the back of the net. The Dominicans (0-3) left winless.
Pineda wound up with a hat-trick after only 29 minutes for the Central Americans, who enjoyed a three-goal advantage after only nine minutes.
She first struck with the match only 70 seconds old, latching onto a pass from Idania Perez and beating goalkeeper Heidy Salazar from 16 yards.
Several minutes later, Pineda had a brace, taking a pass from Ana Lucia Martinez, splitting a pair of defenders and scoring again from 16 yards in the fifth minute.
Maria Monterroso got into the act in the ninth minute. Cinthya Lopez seht her a pass and Monterroso chipped the ball past Salazar, who was too late getting out the net.
Pineda completed her hat-trick just before the half hour, beating defender Ana Diaz and depositing the ball into the back of the net off a Perez feed.
Eight minutes into the second half, Martinez found the scoresheet for a 5-0 advantage.
The U.S. played Mexico in the second match of the doubleheader.
