VANCOUVER — Don’t expect Canada to take its foot off the pedal when it takes on Cuba in a CONCACAF women’s Olympic qualifying game, says coach John Herdman.
The Canadians rolled to a 6-0 win over Haiti in its tournament-opening win at BC Place on Thursday night.
Cuba is ranked 34 spots below Haiti, but Herdman said he was impressed with the Caribbean’s attackers in its 2-0 loss to Costa Rica.
“When they’re on the ball they’re ac tually good to watch,” he told the Vancouver Sun. “They combined well and I think it will be a good test for us.”
Canadian defender Lauren Sesselmann (knee) and forward Christina Julien (concussion) won’t play against Cuba due to injuries suffered against the Haitians.
“It’s an opportunity for a couple of players to stake their claim,” Herdman was quoted by the Sun.
Melanie Booth will replace Sesslemann at left fullback.
