FRISCO, Texas – Once an “enemy” of FC Dallas, defender Carlos Rodriguez is now a friend. Actually, he is a member of the Major League Soccer team as the 21-year-old Panamanian defender signed with the club on Friday.
The signing is pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate. As per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Rodriguez faced Dallas twice during his time with Tauro FC in CONCACAF Champions League group play last year.
“We liked what we saw in him during Champions League last year,” Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said in a release. “He’s athletic with a good work ethic and he’s young at 21 years old. He can play both left and right side full back and is attack-minded. We were looking for another player to give us balance and depth in our defense, and I believe Carlos will do very well in MLS.”
Rodriguez recorded one assist for Tauro during the competition and created multiple chances in two matches againstDallas in Panama and at FC Dallas Stadium.
He appeared in two friendlies for the Panama National Team last year, earning caps against Paraguay on Sept. 2 and Costa Rica on Nov. 11.
Rodriguez is on the roster for Panama’s friendly match with the U.S. National Team, which scheduled for Jan. 25 in Panama City, Panama.
As it turns out Dallas’ Brek Shea and Zach Loyd are on the roster for that match, while new addition Blas Perez also will perform for Panama. That game will kick off from Estadio Rommel Fernandez at 8:30 p.m. CT and will air live on Galavision and ESPN3.
