Whitecaps select Jamaica’s Mattocks as 2nd pick of MLS draft

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — University of Akron forward Darren Mattocks, a Portmore, Jamaica, native, was selected by the Vancouver Whitecaps as the second pick of the MLS SuperDraft on Thursday afternoon.

A 2011 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy finalist, Mattocks struck for 21 goals and added four assists for the Zips this past season. He added 18 goals and five assists in 2010.

Mattocks, 21, was called into the Jamaican National Team in December. He is a member of the Jamaican Under-23 National Team pol and played for Waterhouse, F.C. in his native country.
